GetSubStr function for Excel (Calc)

GETSUBSTR() Description

The GETSUBSTR() function is designed to retrieve part of the text by a specified delimiter.

Main Features of the GETSUBSTR Function

Syntax:

=GETSUBSTR(Text; Delimiter; Entry)

Parameters:

• Text: Text that needs to be broken into parts.
• Delimiter: Any character or set of characters that will be used as a text separator.
• Entry: The sequence number of a part of the text (occurrence). It can also have a negative value, which means searching for an occurrence from the end of the string. If the value is 0, it returns all occurrences.

Example Usage

The GETSUBSTR() function is easy to use. You just need to enter any text, specify the separator and the sequence number of the required part of the text, and Excel (Calc) will automatically split a string of characters into parts and return the specified piece of text:

=GETSUBSTR(Text; Delimiter; Entry)

This example uses the following values:

• Text: A3 - Tex, which needs to be broken into parts ("apple-banana-mint") .
• Delimiter: B3 - Text separator ("-") .
• Entry: C3 - Serial number of the part of the text (1) .
